Details of late king’s property next week

Kathmandu, December 11:

Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula today told a meeting of the Parliamentary State Affairs Committee that the government is all set to submit the property details of late King Birendra and his family next week.

The government is investigating deposits in both national and international banks and shares in the name of late king Birendra and queen Aishwarya, he said.

Meanwhile, the committee today started clause-wise discussion on the Nepal Trust Bill-2007.

The government, as per Article 88 of the Interim Constitution 2007, has decided to form Nepal Trust 2007 to run, manage and utilise the property owned by late king Birendra and his family.

The parliament today decided to send the Arms and Ammunition (second amendment) Bill 2007 to the State Affairs committee for clause-wise discussion.

The Bill was tabled at the parliament by Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula.

Also today, the parliament accepted the resignation of lawmakers Mahanta Thakur of Nepali Congress, Hridayesh Tripathi of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi), Mahendra Yadav of CPN-UML, and Ram Chandra Raya of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, as per clause 227 of the Legislature-Parliament Regulation 2007.

The four lawmakers had yesterday tendered their resignation to Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang citing “reluctance of the interim parliament” in addressing the Madesh issue.

Speaker Nembang read out the resignation letters of the lawmakers in the parliament. Today’s session of the parliament began at 1.00 pm, two hours later than the scheduled time, because of the meeting of the Parliamentary Working Management Committee, which discussed the resignation of four lawmakers. Speaker Nembang was busy attending another programme in the city. Speaker Nembang today issued a ruling on lawmaker Rajendra Pandey of CPN-UML when the latter sought time to speak as soon as the session got underway. Speaker repeatedly asked Pandey to sit down when he tried to speak.

Sources said the Parliamentary Working Management Committee had decided not to give time to lawmakers to speak during today’s session to avoid any unwanted debates.

The next session of the parliament has been scheduled for December 13.
