Deuba says Koirala's candidacy in PM poll was blunder

POKHARA: Senior leader of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, said his party President Sushil Koirala's candidacy in the prime ministerial election last month was a blunder.

Speaking at a function in Pokhara of Kaski on Friday, Deuba said the party cadres were not happy with the decision.

"It was wrong for Koirala, who had publicly announced to quit a day after promulgation of the Constitution, to vie for the Prime Minister again," he said.

Now, the party would play its role as a strong opposition in the Parliament, he added.

Meanwhile, Deuba said the party would become stronger after the upcoming 13th general convention.

The former Prime Minister, on the occasion, urged India not to inflict pain on Nepali people by obstructing supplies to Nepal.

He was of the view that problems of Nepalis were also problems of Indians as the two nations had harmonious relations for years.

Nepali Congress leader Minendra Rijal had also spoken at the function.
