District Hospital in Gaur sans doctor

RAUTAHAT: With the transfer of three doctors working under temporary quota, the District Hospital in Gaur, Rautahat has been without a doctor.

Dr Subash Chaudhary, Dr Manoj Kausal and Dr Imtyaj Ahamad were transferred a week ago.

Hundreds of patients have been facing a hard time due to shortage of doctors in the health facility.

Due to lack of doctors, health assistants have been providing services to the patients.

The Heath Ministry last year sent three doctors under temporary quota at the district's only well-equipped 50-bed hospital.

It has been learnt that the Ministry did not extend the tenure of the doctors owning to political intervention.

More than a 100 patients suffering from various diseases visit the hospital every day.

According to Bimalesh Jha, heath assistant at the Emergency ward, the hospital provides only minor health services to the patients and refers them to the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital in Birgunj for further treatment.

It has been learnt that free surgery to pregnant women has also been halted due to lack of doctors in the hospital.

After the hospital stopped carrying out surgery, pregnant women have been compelled to go to expensive hospitals in Birgunj, Raxual, Kathmandu and India for the treatment.

Not only the District Hospital, primary health centre in Gangapipara, and a government hospital in Chandranigahapur are also facing crisis of doctors.
