Dolakha roads being upgraded with ADB aid

Dolakha, February 5

The roads in Dolakha district are rapidly being upgraded with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank.

The gravelled road from Charikot to Singti, which was constructed by Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Project earlier, has been widened to 5.5 metres, and 75 per cent of the road has been blacktopped with ADB’s assistance.

According to Division Road Office Dolakha Chief engineer Dhamendra Kumar Jha, blacktopping of the 19-kilometre stretch of the 30-kilometre road section had been over. He added construction work of the road would be over on time. Upgradation of the road, along with construction of necessary infrastructure, is being carried out with Rs 720 million. CR Fibe of China and Swachhanda Construction Service, Nepal, were awarded the contract for widening and blacktopping of the road.

Site In-charge Hari Niraula of Swachhanda Construction Service said there were problems when blacktopping the road due to lack of technology.  The ADB has invested Rs 1.58 billion for construction of roads after the 2015 earthquakes in the district.

According to District Coordination Committee, construction of Sunkhani and Bhirkot Hawa roads are in full swing with ADB’s assistance. Engineer Nabin Maharjan of ADB said progress of the ADB project was satisfactory. He said ADB was giving top priority to quality to ensure sustainable management of the projects.
