A joint security Patrol arrested eight cadres for trying to influence voters to vote for their candidates in the November 20 polls during the silent period from various places in Rautahat last night.

The arrested have been identified as relatives of Mohammad Abul Kalam Ajad, candidate of Rautahat constituency-4B under provincial assembly from Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal.

The joint team led by Inspector Arbind Kumar Sah had nabbed them with a pressure cooker and 6,000 ballot papers stamped with the swostik mark. The arrested are Ranjit Kumar Yadav, 24, Nilesh Yadav, Ranjan Yadav, 14, Anil Yadav, 23, Manir Miya, 31, and Satyalal Yadav, 24.

The joint security team also nabbed two persons with cash and ballot papers. The arrested are Khurshed Sesh, 51, and Sesh Gani Mohammad, 51. Police have seized Rs 214,200 in cash and ballot papers stamped with Swostki on the UML election symbols. A police investigation shows that Sesh and Mohammad are relatives of Janata Samajwadi Party and CPN-UML coalition's common candidate Mohammmad Abul Kalam Ajad.

"Police have launched an investigation into the eight persons nabbed, and the cash and ballot papers seized", said DSP Sunil Malla.
