KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 9

Eight women climbers from six countries have successfully scaled Yalung Ri (5,630m) in Dolakha district after bad weather forced the cancellation of their planned ascent of Ramdung Peak (5,930m) in the Rolwaling region.

The team, part of the Hamdeli Ramdung Peak 2025 Expedition, had gathered in Rolwaling Valley to promote women's participation in high-altitude mountaineering. The group included climbers from Nepal, the United States, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.

All eight climbers reached the summit of Yalung Ri together at 8:02 a.m. on Wednesday, according to IFMGA-certified guide Pasang Kidar Sherpa, who, along with Mingma Chhiri Sherpa, led the expedition.

Sherpa said that heavy snowfall and unstable weather conditions prevented the group from attempting Ramdung Peak as planned. "The climb was redirected to Yalung Ri, where all members summited together in an inspiring display of teamwork," he said. The expedition, titled "Women in Mountaineering Collaboration," was initially scheduled to climb Ramdung Peak (5,930m) as part of its mission to promote female participation in global mountaineering.

The expedition aimed to highlight cross-border cooperation and promote women's empowerment through mountaineering. However, Afghan climber Neki Haidari had to withdraw from the climb at around 4,000 meters due to health issues.

The group began their ascent at 1 a.m. and reached the top in about seven hours.
