HUMLA, MARCH 8

An elderly woman in Tajakot Rural Municipality of Humla has been struggling for life due to lack of treatment expenses for almost a year now.

Maila Health Post Incharge Dhana Raj Dhakal said that Hoijali Dhami, 66, of the rural municipality was compelled to stay at home due to lack of money for treatment. She has been suffering from uterus related problems for the last ten months.

Dhami had reached Kohalpur Medical College, Nepalgunj, after selling her buffalo for Rs 50,000 to avail treatment last year. Hoijali's husband Dalsur said that they returned home after staying 14 days in the hospital with a diagnosis of uterus infection. He further said that the medicine given by the hospital did not make much of a difference.

Hoijali said that she was living with acute pain. Health workers said that the poor family did not even have money to reach Nepalgunj Hospital. Hoijali said that she experienced lower abdomen pain, body ache and bleeding.

Dalsur said they had a buffalo that was sold last year for treatment. "I have nothing left to sell for treatment expenses now," he added.

Humla is a district that has no transportation facility yet.

Health workers said that not only Hoijali, but most women in the rural areas had been suffering from the same problem.

They said women hid their problems and reached the health facility in severe condition.
