Minister says polls will be impartial; vows digital transformation and diaspora voting rights
KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 15
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has said that the environment required for the March 5 House of Representatives election has been fully prepared.
Speaking at a face-to-face programme organised by the FNJ South Korea chapter on Friday, Minister Kharel-who also serves as the government spokesperson-said the election will be held in an impartial, secure, and fearless environment. "No party has refused to take part. Some have only sought stronger security arrangements," he said.
He added that the interim government, formed in the wake of the Gen Z movement, prioritises good governance, anti-corruption efforts, employment generation and digital transformation.
Kharel said Nepal has gained valuable experience from South Korea in AI and digital advancement, expressing hope for further cooperation, particularly for Nepal's newly established National AI Center.
He also committed to legal arrangements ensuring voting rights for Nepalis abroad. "This will be guaranteed-even through an ordinance," he said, adding that efforts are underway to establish a direct Nepal Airlines flight between Nepal and South Korea.
Nearly 100,000 Nepalis are currently living in South Korea for employment, business and studies.
