KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 8

Nearly 300 foreign climbers along with their high altitude workers are all set to attempt to climb the world's eighth highest peak in western Nepal, Mt Manaslu, in the autumn season.

According to the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the DoT has issued climbing permits to 266 foreign climbers of 23 expedition teams for Mt Manaslu (8,163 m) as of today.

"DoT estimates that at least 300 foreign climbers along with their high altitude workers will be on Mt Manaslu in the autumn season this year while the Department of Tourism issued climbing permits to 284 members for six different mountains till date," the DoT said.

According to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks, SST/14 Peaks Expedition will have more than 90 climbers on Mt Manaslu this season. "Legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa will lead our expedition as the lead guide," he said.

Kami Rita aka Everest Man also confirmed that he would attempt to scale the Manaslu real summit this season. "I am leading SST expeditions on Manaslu this season," Kami Rita, who scaled Mt Everest for the record 28th time, said.

There were reports that Kami Rita migrated to the USA as he retired from climbing. "No man, I am here to climb Manaslu and still in the climbing business," Kami Rita quipped. The legendary climber said that he wanted to reach the real Manaslu summit this season as he had already made it thrice to the fore-summit.
