Expedite reconstruction, Poudel tells NRA

Hetauda, April 27

Province 3 Chief Minister Dormani Poudel today asked National Reconstruction Authority to focus more on action than mere words.

Speaking at an interaction organised by NRA in Hetauda, CM Poudel held that NRA had worked less and had just been selling dreams. “Quake victims were given assurances, but words have to be transformed into deeds,” he added.

CM Poudel advised the NRA to work promptly to yield outcome. He asked to revise the prevailing laws and provisions to shorten lengthy processes and methods to serve and facilitate quake victims.

Poudel also asked NRA to change its modus operandi to expedite the reconstruction work. Stating that quake victims have been compelled to live in temporary shelters for the last three years, Poudel urged the government to hand over the responsibility of reconstruction to the provincial government and local levels.

“If the central government could not oversee the reconstruction work, I urge the government to hand over the work to local levels which will finish the work on time,” he added.

Poudel commented that policies formulated by the NRA were impractical. Noting that a quake victim could not build a house as suggested by the NRA, Poudel stressed the need to make new laws to accelerate the reconstruction work.

At the programme, NRA Executive Officer Yubaraj Bhusal had presented details of work carried out by NRA. Bhusal said that NRA was working to rebuild public schools, cultural and historical heritages damaged by the devastating earthquakes in the year 2015.
