Families of 'fallen' Doti children to receive compensation
DHANGADHI: The Supreme Court has issued an order to provide compensation to the families of children who had lost their lives six years ago after receiving measles vaccination in Doti district.
The SC, on Sunday, issued an order to this effect in response to the writ petition filed by Advocate Dal Bahadur Dhami among others, demanding compensation.
The apex court gave the order to provide compensation of Rs 1 million per family saying that innocent children lost their lives due to negligence on part of government officers.
On August 19, 2012, four out of six children of Kadamandau in Doti — Milan Nepali, Sujata Nepali, Gauri Chiral and Anju BK — had died after receiving measles vaccination.
SC's decision is also supported by District Public Health Office's acceptance that the vaccine was not administered with care. The committee that was formed to investigate the matter stated in its report that bad stock of vaccine had been used on the children.
