Farmers’ cooperatives express solidarity with sugarcane farmers

BARA, DECEMBER 18

Small Farmers Agriculture Cooperatives Association Limited, Bara, has expressed its solidarity with sugarcane farmers’ agitation in the district headquarters Kalaiya.

The association representatives and sugarcane farmers gathered at Bharatchowk of the district headquarters Kalaiya and demanded early clearance of dues of the sugarcane farmers.

Participants of the protest had made a round of the Kalaiya bazaar by carrying placards demanding that incentives such as free fertilisers and seeds be provided to the farmers, market guarantee for agriculture produce be ensured and action be taken against the persons and companies delaying payment to the farmers.

Speaking at a corner meeting, the cooperatives association district chair Mishralal Sahini accused the state of being apathetic towards farmers’ plight.

“It’s a matter of shame for a communist government with a two-third majority to face a situation when farmers are bound to hold protests, demonstrations, and the like to get the payment for their produce,” said Sahini.

On the occasion, Sugarcane Farmers’ Association Bara secretary Gorakh Prasad Yadav urged the government and sugarcane mill owners to clear dues to the farmers immediately. “The agitating farmers have been bracing the biting cold. The government and the industrialists must at least see that and pay the dues pronto,” he said.
