Federal system will break the country apart, says KC

Kathmandu, March 28:

Chairman of the Jana Morcha Nepal, Chitra Bahadur KC, said today that the federal system will break the country apart.

“There should be a unitary state mechanism, but the state power should be devolved to the local administrations so that they can function independently,” he said at the opening ceremony of the 16th National Convention of the All Nepal National Free Student Union (Unified) in Khula Manch.

He said the parties that are advocating federalism are not clear on what type of federalism they want.

He said that the Madhesi movement compelled the government to adopt federalism.

Referring to the eight parties, he said, “As demanded by the Madhesi people, the ‘eight bhai’ (brothers) made a decision to adopt the federal system though there are a myriad of demands that are being raised in the country” he said. He said the announcement was not good for the country. “What will happen if demands of all the people are met,” he said. He said the Maoist demands for autonomy based on ethnicities, regions and languages undermine the principle of class struggle. “The demands are being raised to evade the issue of class struggle,” he said.
