Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel said today that the federal structure could not be scrapped.
Talking to the party rank and file in Damauli of Tanahun, Paudel reiterated that the federal structure could not be scrapped because it was a new experiment for Nepal. Besides, he also saw the federal structure that emphasized on empowering the local levels as a means by which it would be possible to end corruption and irregularities in the country so as to salvage the country from financial crisis.
"Federalism is the outcome of the Madhes movement and other ethnic movements. Scrapping the system will plunge the country into the next wave of agitation. Thus, we have to watch how the system functions for 10 years," Paudel added.
Paudel argued that intra-party rift had weakened the party. He said that development work had picked up pace after the Congress-led government came to power.
