Final list of candidates for phase II polls out

The Election Commission today unveiled the final list of candidates vying for the second phase of provincial and parliamentary first-past-the-post elections slated for December 7.

The poll panel also provided election symbols to candidates.

Of the 4,747, candidates, who filed nomination papers for the second phase of provincial and parliamentary FPTP elections, the names of 264 candidates were removed from the list, according to a press release issued by EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal.

The EC said that 258 candidates had withdrawn their names from the list. Likewise, the EC cancelled the names of two candidates and scrapped four other names.

There are 128 parliamentary constituencies and 256 provincial constituencies in these 45 districts.

Second phase of elections will be held in Ilam, Tehrathum, Dhankuta, Udayapur, Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari district of Province 1;   Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusa, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Bara, Parsa and Rautahat district of Province 2; Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchowk, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts of Province 3.

Likewise, the second phase of provincial and the parliamentary elections will be held in Tanahun, Kaski, Syangja, Parbat, and (east of Bardaghat Susta) Nawalparasi district of Province 4; Palpa, Arghakhanchi, Gulmi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang Pyuthan, Banke, Bardia, (west of Bardaghat Susta) Nawalparasi districts of Province 5; Salyan, Surkhet, and Dailekh of Province 6; and Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Achham and Doti districts of Province 7.

The EC said that 12,198,852 eligible voters of the aforementioned 45 districts would elect 384 representatives (128 for the Parliament and 256 for provincial assemblies) through FPTP election.
