Fire victims crave for food, shelter

Badgama (Saptari), March 7:
Members of the Yadav community in Badgama village development committee in Saptari district had to spend the night without food and shelter as their houses and properties were gutted yesterday afternoon. As many as 36 people were injured when they tried to put out the fire, which gutted over 120 houses. The victims said even potable water was dear to them. Nanaku Tathawar Yadav, a 72-year-old victim, said he had not taken food since yesterday afternoon. “Even water is in short supply.” Stating that they had been living without food and shelter, Indra Dev Yadav, a former chairman of the VDC, called on the government to provide them immediate relief.
Another fire victim, Chhedi Sipaliya, who, along with others, had gone to the sub-health post for treatment said medicines were in short supply in the post. In charge of the sub-health post, Laxmi Narayan Mishra, admitted that the post was facing a shortage of medicines. “It is really difficult to pass our day in this hot summer day without food,” said five-year-old Naresh Yadav. Meanwhile, a team headed by CDO Ananda Raj Pokharel provided Rs 1,100 to each family. According to Pokharel, the Red Cross Society distributed a saree, a Dhoti and utensils to the victims today.
