KATHMANDU, MAY 17

Yandy Martinez Nunez has become the first climber from Cuba to successfully scale the world's highest peak as over 100 climbers made it to the top of Mt Everest this morning.

According to Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director at Ascent Himalayas, Yandy, a resilient climber hailing from Cuba but living in Iceland, has created history as the first Cuban to conquer the summit, accompanied by the exceptional IFMGA guide Pasang Tenzing Sherpa at around 10:45 am. "This summit marks Pasang Tenzing's 16th Everest ascent," he added. John Warwick Dover from Australia along with guide Danurbu Sherpa and Jason Ralph Ramsdel from the USA with his climbing guide Sangey Sherpa also stood atop the mountain, Sherpa said.

Pemba Sherpa, Managing Director at 8K Expeditions, informed that at least 17 climbers including seven foreigners scaled Mt Everest this morning. "Piao Tjhang from Hong Kong, Bryan Bridges Tropeano (USA), Nisha Kumari (India), Shuang Wang, Orianne Catherine Aymard (France) and Santosh Laxman Dagade (India) along with Pasdawa Sherpa, Pe Chombi Sherpa, Dawa Wongchu Sherpa, Jangbu Sherpa, Pastenji Sherpa, Pasang Tenje Sherpa, Lakpa Gelje Sherpa, Mingma Sherpa, Karma Geljen Sherpa and Mingma Jangbu Sherpa from 8K International Everest Expedition successfully scaled Mt Everest," he said.

Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, Managing Director at Imagine Nepal Treks, informed that Dawa Gyalje Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa (Lakpa Sona), Dawa Jangbu Sherpa and Pasang Ngima Sherpa reached the summit point on Mt Everest for the second time. "They have also scaled the mountain fixing ropes to the summit point on May 13," he said.

According to Mingma G, Benjamin Bruce Mattingl, Mao Shao Yun, Li Yifan, Gu Xumin, Lim Jun Jeh Matthew, Tang Bin, Zhang Jian and Zhu Chunmei also scaled Mt Everest this morning. "Pasang Ngima Sherpa, Phinjo Dorjee Sherpa, Lakpa Sona Sherpa, Dawa Gyalje Sherpa, Ngima Dorjee Sherpa, Dawa Jangbu Sherpa, Lakpa Tamang and Bise Bahadur Gurung from Imagine Nepal Treks stood atop the world's highest peak."
