Flood-displaced kids not attending school

Nawalparasi, October 29:

Around 100 children of Piprahar-Rajahar and Laugai-Pithauli who were displaced by floods are not attending school for the past two months as their schools are too far.

The children were displaced when the flooded Narayani river swept away the Majhi and Bote settlements on August 26.

The children spend their time playing games the whole day , said former district chairman of the Majhi-Musahar-Bote Welfare Committee, Amar Bahadur Majhi. Children of Laugai-Pithauli were admitted to the local Narayani Primary School and children of Piprahar-Rajahar were admitted to the Birendra-Aishworya Memorial School.

Some 65 Students of the Narayani Primary School and 35 students of another school are also not attending school because the schools are situated far.

“The school is so far away that the flood-displaced people are unwilling to send their children to school,” said Laxman Mahato, chairman of the Birendra-Aishworya Memorial School.
