Flood-hit victims defy ban, protest on highway

ITAHARI: Ignoring local administration’s indefinite ban on demonstrations on the highway, displaced Koshi victims continued their agitation throughout the day today on Sunsari’s Laukahi-Koshi Barrage road section.

Following the obstruction for the past nine days, the local administration had prohibited demonstrations on the highway from yesterday to escort

hundreds of vehicles to their destinations. Despite the prohibitory orders, the flood victims, challenging it, held their protests since the morning.

Vehicular movement on the highway has been brought to a halt. Ignoring the presence of security personnel, the victims burnt tyres and shouted slogans.

President of Koshi Victims’ Struggle Committee Pancha Narayan Mandal accused the government of fuelling their agitation.
