A newly-constructed building of the Federation of Nepali Journalists in Dadheldhura district has been bulldozed without prior notice.
Amargadi Municipality in the district and Division Forest Office, Dadheldhura, demolished the building using security forces and a dozer.
The FNJ issued a press statement today and condemned the municipality's act. FNJ Dadheldhura chapter President Hikmat Bahadur Singh and Secretary Pushkar Bhandari issued a press statement today protesting the demolition of the three-storey building.
The building also houses the office of Sudurpaschim Provincial Information Centre.
FNJ Dadheldhura chapter asserted that the damage caused to the building was illegal, an unforgivable offence and against the freedom of press.
FNJ Dadheldhura chapter clarified that it had the right to use the land where the building was built. FNJ Dadheldhura slammed the cavalier attitude of the local administration and Division Forest Office, Dadheldhura, and urged them to address the issue through dialogue.
Division Forest Office, Dadheldhura, officer Bishnu Prasad Acharya apologised for any inconvenience caused due to their ignorance of the issue.
FNJ Dadheldhura chapter has warned of protest if the culprits involved in dismantling the newly-built building are not brought to book within 24 hours and investigation into the incident is not conducted.
