Foreigners staying illegally held

Police in Pokhara have arrested a significant number of foreigners found to be Living illegally in Nepal in the past one year.

As per data, 22 foreign nationals were apprehended from Pokhara by the end of the last fiscal. While some of them were found to be overstaying their visa, others were living in Nepal without the required documents.

“We’ve intensified our surveillance on tourists who we doubt or about who we’ve received a tip-off. Entering Nepal on a visit visa, they have stayed back instead of returning to their countries,” said  Pokhara Tourist Police Office SI Rabin Pande.

Those arrested from Pokhara have been sent to the Immigration Department for action through the Immigration Office of Pokhara.

According to senior immigration assistant Chetraj Acharya of the Pokhara-based immigration office, majority of those detailed in the past one year are Russian tourists.

As per official records, so far seven Russian nationals living in Pokhara without visa and other necessary documents have faced

action.

On a single day, police etained a family of four Russian nationals living in Pokhara illegally.

They were sent back to their country.

Others who have thus been arrested for illegally staying in Pokhara include the nationals of Yamen, Tibet, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Turkey, France and Kenya.
