Four labourers were injured after an under-construction compound wall of an inn collapsed at Katahariya Municipality, Rautahat, yesterday. Of them, one is in critical condition.

The compound wall fell while the construction of a channel near the Dharamshala was underway.

ADB Company was carrying out the construction work under the Urban Drainage Project.

Saraf Lal Gupta, a local, said the incident occurred because the construction company did not deploy workers with safety materials. He added that the local people's representatives and engineers were negligent and therefore responsible for the incident.

Engineer Jitendra Prasad Yadav claimed that they had provided safety materials to the workers.

He added that the company had also insured and provided helmets for the safety and security of workers.

Saraf Lal said that the workers did not use safety materials while constructing the channel. He said that the compound wall collapsed after they dug below the level of the wall.

The injured have been identified as Anil Kumar Yadav of Debahigonahi Municipality, Manoj Kumar Yadav of Phatuwa Bijayapur Municipality, Amlesh Prasad Yadav of Simraungadh Municipality, Bara, and Rajiv Yadav of Dhankaulal Municipality, Sarlahi.

The injured are receiving treatment in Jiban Jyoti Hospital, Katahariya, and the critically injured Manoj Kumar Yadav was referred to Birgunj-based health facility for further treatment.
