Fresh earthquakes hit Bajhang in Far-Western Nepal

BAITADI: Bajhang district has been jolted by two fresh earthquakes on Saturday.

According to Kapil Maharjan, Technical Assistant at the Surkhet Regional Seismological Centre, the earthquake with local magnitude 4.4 jolted the district at 6:08 am while another measuring 3.2 struck at 6:32 am.

The epicentre of both earthquakes was Mayan, 11 kilometres north-east from Chainpur, the district headquarters of Bajhang, added Maharjan.

The coordinates of the centre are 29.64°N, 81.28°E.

Earlier quakes were realised on July 29 and 30 with their epicentres at the same place.

Locals have gathered at open place after the earthquake for safety.

DSP Narendra Chand of the District Police Office, Bajhang said that preparations were underway to collect details of the losses caused by the earthquakes.
