Funds-starved school on the verge of closure

Sankhuwasabha, Dec 7:

Lamburang Primary School in Madimulkharka-2 in the district is on the verge of closure due to financial crunch.

Gopal Geemi, chairman of the school management committee, said the school, which is being run through funds collected from local people, was facing closure because of financial problem.

“The situation has become very serious. Despite our repeated pleas for financial assistance, the authorities concerned aren’t becoming serious on the issue,” he said, adding, “Children will be deprived of education if the school was shut down.” A total of 25 students are studying in the school.

Geemi also said that the District Development Committee and the District Education Office (DEO) had turned deaf ears to their requests for financial assistance.

The locals had established the school from their own resources after seeing the children walk for three hours to another school. The DEO gave its approval to the school but hadn’t provided any financial assistance so far. “Though the DEO is monitoring the school, it is not providing any support. We are bearing all expenses of teachers from our own resources,” the locals informed.

The situation worsened after Chhatreshwori Primary School, which used to provide educational materials to the school in the past, said that it would not provide any support to the school this year, a school source said.
