Funeral procession of Saptari shooting victim
RAJBIRAJ: The funeral procession of Ram Krishna Raut, who was killed in a police firing yesterday, has been carried out in Saptari district on Thursday.
The 60-year-old Raut of Portaha-1 in Saptari district had died on Wednesday after police opened fire in the air while trying to reopen the East-West Highway.
After the autopsy at the Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, the procession was carried out.
The body was kept in Rajbiraj, Rupani and Hanuman Nagar among other places for the final respects.
Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal (FSF-N) Central Vice-Chairperson Renu Yadav, Sadabhawan Party Central Vice-Chairperson Nawal Kishor Sah, FSF-N central member Sailendra Prasad Sah and Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party leader Jay Prakash Thakur among others had draped their parties’ flag over Raut’s body.
The deceased is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters.
Earlier, an all-party meeting had decided to demand that the state declare him a martyr, and provide due compensation to Raut’s family.
Meanwhile, the ongoing strike on the 27th day has adversely affected life of people in the district.
