Funeral procession of three killed in Rangeli, Dainiya police firing taken out

The funeral procession of three persons killed in the police firing in Morang’s Rangeli and Dainiya was taken out in Biratnagar today.

A clash had broken out between the police and United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres while the latter tried to disrupt the Tarai Madhes Awareness Campaign organised by CPN-UML’s youth wing Youth Association Nepal on Thursday in Rangeli.

Three persons Draupapati Devi Chaudhary, 58, Mahadev Rishidev,45 and Shibu Majhai, 25 were killed in police firing.

After UDMF leaders Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato paid final tribute to the deceased, the funeral procession was taken out at 2:00 pm from Koshi Zonal Hospital Biratnagar.

The procession passed through DAO, Bhrikuti Chowk, Dharan Road, Traffic Chowk to Rangeli.

People participating at the procession shouted slogans against the government and demanded Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation.

Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Morang chair Mohammad Kadir said they had handed over the bodies to family members after organising a condolence meeting. Kadir said that final rites of the deceased were performed in their respective places.

DSP Pramod Kharel said security was beefed up from early morning to avert any untoward incident.

The government provided the victims’ families Rs 25,000 each for final rites yesterday. UDMF said it had accepted the bodies after a five-point agreement with the government.

Similarly, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav said that it was government’s cowardice to shoot people participating in a peaceful agitation.

Sadbhawana party Chair Rajendra Mahato demanded that the government probe into the incident and punish the guilty.
