KATHMANDU, JUNE 10

Gandaki Province Chief Minister has lost the vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly floor test held today.

CM Gurung was reappointed the CM on May 12 as the leader of the largest party in the assembly and was required to take a floor test within 30 days.

Gurung secured 27 votes while 30 votes were cast against his favour. The Chief Minister required a minimum of 31 votes to continue his run. One of the lawmakers abstained from the voting process.

In a surprising turn of events, Rajiv Gurung (alias Deepak Manange), a minister in CM Prithvi Subba Gurung's Cabinet, refrained from casting his vote.

As per constitutional provisions, the Governor will now have to call the parties to come forward with their claim to form a majority government.

The opposition alliance comprising Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, Rastriya Janamorcha and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal have been trying to oust Gurung and form a coalition government.
