The Gandaki Province government has suspended the implementation of its newly introduced ride-sharing regulations for a month, following pressure from transport entrepreneurs and directives from the federal government.
The decision came after discussions led by Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey and a federal-level agreement reached late Monday night. According to Kamal Kumar Adhikari, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management and Coordinator of the negotiation committee, the suspension aims to create an environment for further dialogue with transport entrepreneurs.
The federal government had forwarded the agreement to the provincial government through the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, urging immediate steps to restore normalcy and end the public transport shutdown.
In response, transport entrepreneurs, who had halted public transportation nationwide in protest against the Gandaki government's move, withdrew their strike and resumed services from Tuesday.
Bijay Swar, President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, confirmed the withdrawal of protest programmes following the provincial government's decision.
The strike had disrupted public life across the country, despite a federal-level agreement already being in place, as protesters awaited formal action from the Gandaki government.
