KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 12

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has emphasized that the participation of Gen-Z should be ensured in every programme, warning that initiatives ignoring their contribution will remain incomplete.

Speaking at the Social Accountability: Media and Youth Dialogue organized by the National Youth Council today, Minister Kharel hailed the Gen-Z Movement of September 8–9 as a historic demonstration of youth activism, noting that the government has already endorsed the agreement signed with Gen-Z representatives.

"The time belongs to the youth. The Gen-Z Movement shattered the notion that young people cannot drive change. They have shown that massive transformation is possible within hours," he said, describing the movement as selfless, aimed at good governance and employment rather than political power.

Minister Kharel urged youth to take a leadership role and predicted their growing influence in Nepali politics. He added that the extent of youth representation in upcoming political party conventions and the March 5 House of Representatives election will reflect the parties' commitment to youth engagement.

He also pledged government support to the media for their role in guiding national transformation. Other speakers at the event included National Assembly member Ganga Kumari Belbase, UNFPA Nepal representative Sriram Haridass, and Federation of Nepali Journalists president Nirmala Sharma, who highlighted youth involvement in problem-solving, innovation, and nation-building.
