KATHMANDU, MAY 19

Ghana Shyam Giri from the Nepali Congress has won the mayoral seat in Chandragiri Municipality. He has got elected for the post for the second time.

He got 15,475 votes against his closest rival Uttam Bahadur Raut from the CPN-UML, who garnered 14,651 votes.

Similarly, the NC won majority seats for chairs at wards 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 15. After being relected as the mayor for the second term today, Giri pledged to fulfil his commitments of carrying out development activities in education, health and infrastructure development. "I will establish the municipality as a model, technology-friendly local level," he vowed.

His development roadmap as pledged to voters during the election focused on establishing good governance and making the municipality information-friendly, promoting and encouraging production, establishing technical educational institutions and training centres, ensuring quality health service, enhancing tourism and conserving religion, culture and arts.
