Gorkha woman arrested for snatching jewellery in Tanahun

DAMAULI: Police in Tanahun district on Monday arrested a woman for snatching gold jewellery from a local resident of Ganeshman Chok, in Byas Municipality-2.

The arrested has been identified as Radha Thapa (49), a permanent resident of Bhandarithok, Palungtar Municipality-5 in Gorkha district, who has currently been residing in Pokhara Metropolis-10 of Kaski district.

According to chief of Tanahun District Police Office (DPO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhi Bikram Shah, Thapa lured Bimala Thapa showing counterfeit gold before robbing latter of 1 tola gold necklace and half tola gold ring, on February 24.

SP Shah said that the woman was arrested through a search operation launched on the basis of complaint lodged by the victim, and CCTV footage. He said, police confiscated a counterfeit gold necklace, a pair of ear studs, two rings, three pairs of earrings, a mobile phone set and electronic cards.

Police said, the woman was found hanging around Palungtar in the same garment she was seen wearing in the CCTV footage.

Police have proceeded with the investigation into the case after taking the woman in custody from Tanahun District Court in general date.

Meanwhile, the search is also on for two men who were seen assisting the arrested in the CCTV, said police.
