‘Government cutting short its own tenure’

Phidim, March 23

Nepali Congress central member Bhishmaraj Angdembe has made it clear that his party is not for bringing down the government.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Nepal Press Union Panchthar chapter in the district headquarters Phidim today, the NC leader clarified that his party had no intention of acceding to power at this juncture.

“Despite whatever is in the air, Congress doesn’t have any scheme against this government. In fact, the matter of whether or not to join the present UML-led government or topple it doesn’t figure in our priority list as we’re more concerned about consolidating the party and holding the general conventions of our sister wings now,” he said.

He construed the non-issuance of a joint press communiqué at the end of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s India visit as a failure on the part of the executive head of government.

The Congress leader said, “On top of it, his inefficiency is evident in the failure to rightly raise the agenda of mutual agreement between Nepal and China during his recent China visit.”

In fact, if the fate of the incumbent government is on the line, it’s only and only due to the PM’s short-sightedness, he observed.

“Save for his birthday celebration there, the PM couldn’t do anything to fulfil people’s expectations during his India tour and now it’s almost sure that his China tour will also be a mere show-off, without any achievement worth mentioning,” he said.

He added saying, “In view of all these things, the government is cutting its tenure short itself. Congress doesn’t have to do anything.”

Regarding the opening of Rasuwagadi entry point as envisioned in the transit agreement with China, Angdembe, who is also president of the Parliament’s Industry, Commerce and Consumer’s Welfare Committee president opined that the government should do the needful to open the closed Tatopani entry point rather than Rasuwagadi, which, according to him, is not suitable in the country’s context.
