Kathmandu, January 20:
A highly-placed source at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said the government was in no position to bear the cost of establishing and running four more universities, even as the Cabinet today held discussions on the ordinance, which, if passed, would pave the way for setting up of these universities. The source pointed out that none of the proposed universities had disclosed how they would arrange funds.
The subject committee of the Cabinet had asked the ministry whether the government was in a position to set up and run the universities, namely the Rajshree Janak University, University of Agricultural and Forestry, Mid-western University and the Far-western University.
Stating that five existing universities were not faring well, educationists and former vice-chancellors have flayed the move to establish more universities.
