KATHMANDU, APRIL 8

The Department of Transport Management has announced an increase in fares for inter-province public transport services, effective immediately.

Issuing a notice on Wednesday, the department said the fare adjustment has been made under the automatic pricing system based on 13 indicators, including changes in fuel prices. The adjustment follows a rise in the average diesel price and other market variables.

Under the automatic fare adjustment mechanism introduced in 2072, fares for inter-province public transport are revised whenever diesel prices move by five percent or more. The last fare adjustment was made on Poush 22, 2081, when the average market price of diesel stood at Rs 150.83 per litre.

The current revision reflects subsequent increases in fuel prices and other tracked indicators.

The revised fares apply to all inter-province public transport operating across two or more provinces on national-level routes, excluding electric vehicles.

According to the revised rates, passenger transport fares have increased by 16.71 percent. Similarly, freight charges for vehicles operating on hilly routes have risen by 21.68 percent, while those on Terai routes have gone up by 15.75 percent.
