Govt to reroute medicine-laden vehicles

KATHMANDU: A government task force formed to ease the supply of medicines has stated that it was preparing to bring the drugs through Rani and Sunauli border points as most of the medicine-loaded cargo vehicles were stranded at Birgunj border checkpoint due to the border blockade.

Due to the protests in the Terai-Madhes region for over three months, the cross-border supplies including those of medicines have been disrupted, resulting in a shortage of medicines in the country, said Deepak Dahal, Vice-chair of the Association of Pharmaceutical Producers of Nepal (APPN).

He clarified that there was no shortage of medicines to the extent as reported by the media, except for a few medicines.

He added that the medicines would be supplied even by re-routing the medicine-carrying vehicles for their entry into the country.
