KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 24
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said the government's foremost responsibility is to successfully conduct the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
Speaking at the inauguration of a Karnali Province-level Security Seminar in Birendranagar, Surkhet, Aryal said preparations for the polls are progressing in line with constitutional requirements. The seminar was jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers.
"Our main objective is to prevent any potential crisis and ensure the election is held in a peaceful, free, and impartial environment," the minister said, adding that strengthening security mechanisms remains a priority.
Aryal noted that the public mandate requires elections to be held within six months of Parliament's dissolution. He also informed that the names of those who attained martyrdom during the Gen Z movement have been published in the national gazette and that the government is providing relief to their families.
Stressing the need to engage youth, Aryal said Gen Z groups represent collective energy and creativity and should be brought into the political mainstream for national development, good governance, and prosperity.
Addressing the programme, Karnali Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel said peace, security, and good governance are the provincial government's top priorities. He urged Chief District Officers to act not only as administrators but also as guardians of good governance.
Kandel also called on the federal government to address Karnali's pressing issues, including unsafe travel, arbitrary fare collection, rising narcotics abuse, and the province's growing vulnerability to drug-related problems.
Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal said the seminar aims to review Karnali's security situation, identify challenges, and strengthen coordination and response mechanisms.
Senior officials from security agencies and federal and provincial governments attended the seminar.
