RAJBIRAJ, FEBRUARY 10

Just a few days after a relay hunger strike demanding election to a new school management committee and investigation into financial irregularities at a school in Dakneshwori Municipality, Saptari, a protest has started with similar demands in another local level in the district.

Today, guardians at Shree Laxmi Ballav Narasingh Higher Secondary School of Babhangamakatti of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality padlocked the office of the school principal and account section over irregularities at the school.

Guardians have accused the school of unilaterally forming a school management committee by disregarding the standard procedures and criteria and appointing staff on the basis of whims.

"We raised our voice against the various wrong things happening at the school and informed the principal and the school management committee office bearers, but as they didn't heed our concerns, we had to act tough," said local guardian Upendra Yadav.

Another guardian Prakash Mandal claimed there was rampant irregularities on a number of fronts, including in the formation of the school management committee in appointment of staffers and construction of physical infrastructure.

The demanded a high-level investigation.

Meanwhile, the relay hunger strike at Dakneshwori's SLP Secondary School of Patthargadh that started from last week demanding election to a new school management committee and investigation into financial irregularities ended yesterday.

The strike ended following agreement with the school that the election to a new school management committee would be held soon, according to Dakneshwori Municipality Mayor Shivanarayan Sah.
