High Court stays Belaka Municipality-4 poll results

GAIGHAT: The High Court in Okhaldhunga has issued an interim order for the newly elected local body representatives of the Belaka Municipality-4 in Udyapur district not to start works until a next verdict or a decision.

A division bench of Judges Tek Raj Nepal and Dipendra Bahadur Bam issued the order in response to the dispute surfaced after four ballots exceeding the recorded number of cast ballots were found in the Belaka Municipality-4. The election was held on June 31.

Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Center demanded the re-election or recounting stating that they would not entertain the extra ballots.

However, the polling officer allowed to complete the voting and CPN-UML candidate Deepak Dangal and other four members were announced victorious in the election.

Following this, NC and CPN MC candidates filed a writ petition at the court against the announcement.
