KATHMANDU, MAY 17

A cabin crew from Himalaya Airlines successfully scaled the world's highest peak becoming the first Nepali flight attendant to stand atop the roof of the world.

"Omnika Dangol, a flight attendant from Himalaya Airlines, stood atop Mt Everest being part of the expedition run by Thamserku Trekking on Monday," sources at the Everest base camp said.

Omnika, along with other climbers reached the summit point early morning after finding a fair weather window, sources added. She is now descending from Camp IV to the base camp today.

Omnika hadn't given up even after she fell ill while reaching the higher camps for acclimatization rotation a couple of weeks ago, sources said, adding that she returned to the Everest region to achieve her goal after a short stay in Kathmandu.

Finally, Omnika has made it to the top carrying a Himalaya Airlines flag as she was accompanied by Tenzing Sherpa and Pemba Sherpa of Thamserku Trekking, sources confirmed.

The only child of the Dangol family, Omnika, who had earlier scaled three peaks – Mera, Island and Lobue – in just nine days, has been working with Himalaya Airlines for seven years. Her Everest expedition was also sponsored by Himalaya Airlines, sources added.

Omnika, a travel and tourism management graduate from Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management, had climbed Mera, Island and Lobuche peaks to prepare for her Everest climb.
