TANAHUN, FEBRUARY 19

Dozens of homestays in Tanahun are wearing a deserted look after the number of domestic tourists decreased following the coronavirus pandemic.

The homestays in the district used to attract a huge number of tourists before the pandemic. Most of the people reached the homestays at least a week for refreshment, earlier. But the number of tourists have gone down sharply in the last two years due to coronavirus.

Though life is slowly becoming normal in the past few months, the tourism sector is yet to recover. Homestay operators are, however, optimistic about improvement in the situation. Tutepani Home Stay at Bhanu Municipality could not return to its earlier position.

Chairman of Home Stay Management Committee Hom Bahadur Gurung said that internal tourism in the district had been hit hard. He added that the tourism sector would improve within a month. The homestays in the district were brought into operation in 2015 at Tutepani.

Aanpaswara Dalit Community Homestay in Byas Municipality witnessed the same plight. The homestay operators had taken loan from the government, but they could not earn much from the business to pay back the loan due to the pandemic.
