House put off again

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress and other opposition parties obstructed House proceedings today as well demanding the government's commitment not to take action against Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal and to end Maoist excesses.

After NC chief whip Sobhakar Parajuli flayed the excesses and autocratic behaviour of the the ruling UCPN-Maoist at the beginning of the meeting, lawmakers representing the parties surrounded the well chanting slogans against the Maoists' intervention in the national army. Constituent Assembly chairman Subas Nembang then put off all the business until Sunday.

Parajuli said the ruling party was heading towards dictatorship by attacking the democratic fronts one after another. He said House proceedings would be halted until UCPN-Maoist renounces all undemocratic activities and backs down from taking action against the CoAS.
