If necessary, delay statute process for sake of consensus: Chand

Kathmandu, September 8

Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Lokendra Bahadur Chand today said the new constitution should be promulgated through maximum consensus even by delaying the ongoing drafting process.

Addressing an interaction organised by Reporters Club Nepal here today, Chand said delay by a few days would make no difference, but dissenting voices should be addressed to avert violent movements. He said if the parties failed to address the issues raised by dissenting voices, there should be easy way to amend the new constitution.

On the conflict in the party, Chand said he had the support of 61 of the103 central committee members and therefore he would be the authentic chairperson of the party. He said Pashupati Shamsher Rana had ruled the party in an autocratic way and failed to call a single meeting for more than 15 months at this critical hour.

He said he was forced to revolt as Rana had tried to demolish the party. “Though Rana has the option of splitting the party with 40 per cent members of the working committee, I have appealed to him to go ahead in a united manner,” he said.

Former prime minister Chand said a legitimate working committee’s decision is necessary to recall the party’s minister from government and he has already written to the prime minister regarding this.
