'Impeachment motion against CJ Karki to be retracted'
KATHMANDU: Top leaders of three major political parties on Saturday reached an agreement to retract the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Sushila Karki by Sunday morning, a leader of the CPN-UML Subas Nembang informed.
On April 30, 249 lawmakers from the ruling Nepali Congress and the CPN Maoist Centre had registered the impeachment motion against CJ Karki in the Legislature-Parliament.
Since then, the main opposition, CPN-UML, has been protesting the impeachment motion, claiming that it was an infringement on the independent judiciary.
According to Nembang, who is also a deputy Parliamentary Party leader of UML, a meeting of the top leaders of 'Big III' on Saturday concluded with the decision to withdraw the motion.
He also claimed that causing obstruction to the Parliament proceedings was not his party's wish but this was prompted by government actions.
However, the Chief Justice has returned to regular work after she was reinstated by the Supreme Court's order.
