The first-ever Red Panda and Thar Festival began on New Year's Day 2082 BS in Khotang, marking the launch of the 'Mundum Trail Visit Year.' Organized by Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, the two-day event is being held at Hurlung, a scenic tourism site.
Aimed at raising awareness on the conservation of endangered wildlife-particularly the red panda and Himalayan thar-the festival features cultural performances, organic cuisine, traditional costumes, and local products, all managed and presented by the local community.
Nepal Academy Chancellor Bhupal Rai inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of protecting endangered species to preserve the environment and ecosystem. Local officials, political leaders, artists, and researchers also attended the opening.
The festival also marked the opening of the new 'Mundum Trail Red Panda-Thar Route,' a trekking trail that promotes eco-tourism in the region.
