The Government of India has taken up over 523 HICDPs in Nepal and has completed 467 projects since 2003

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, Namgya C Khampa today jointly inaugurated the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital building in Shadananda Municipality, Bhojpur.

The hospital was built under the Government of India's grant assistance in the health sector.

The event was also attended by embassy officials and local government representatives.

The project, built at a cost of Rs 22.60 million, is one of the 75 projects being inaugurated this year in Nepal as part of "India@75 AzadiKaAmritMahotsav" which celebrates 75 years of India's independence.

This hospital will provide better access to quality health care services to the people of Bhojpur and nearby districts.

According to the embassy, the hospital has 15-bed indoor capacity including the maternity section, 24-hour emergency examination rooms, children's ward, operation theatre, waiting hall, pathology lab, rooms for doctors and medical staff, office, toilets for ladies and guests, and furniture and hospital equipment to provide improved health care to the people.

India has taken up over 523 HICDPs in Nepal and has completed 467 projects since 2003. Amongst them, 78 projects have been undertaken in Province 1, including four projects in Bhojpur district. Likewise, the Government of India has also gifted three ambulances to Bhojpur district till date.

Speaking on the occasion, Khampa reiterated that this project was a testament to the multi-faceted, strong and robust development partnership between India and Nepal.

Minister Karki appreciated the continued support of the Government of India to Nepal.

"As close neighbours, India and Nepal share wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation.

The implementation of this project reflects the Government of India's continued commitment to continue to collaborate with the Government of Nepal in its socio-economic development and augment its physical infrastructure, especially in the health sector," said the embassy.
