KATHMANDU, MAY 18
A team of three Sherpa climbers has been rescuing Indian woman climber Piyali Basak from above 7,800m on Mt Makalu.
Three-member Sherpa rescue team from Pioneer Adventure is struggling hard to bring her down, Pasang Sherpa, Chairman at Pioneer Adventure said. The team has now arrived near Camp III.
Piyali, who had attempted to climb Mt Makalu without supplemental oxygen, got struck above Camp IV on Mt Makalu, he said.
"Piyali was very slow and couldn't move when she arrived at around 7,800m after reaching the summit point," he said, adding that her condition is stable.
She will be brought to the lower camps as soon as possible and will be airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment, Sherpa said.
