Indian shooter held in connection to Rupandehi man's murder

BHAIRAHAWA: An Indian national has been arrested on the charge of murdering a man at Baikanthapur of Rohini Rural Municipality-3 in Rupandehi district, last month.

According to District Police Office, Rupandehi, the main suspect Manish Harijan, 40, of Machari village in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh was arrested in connection with the murder of Mahendra Prasad Kurmi, on Wednesday night.

The suspect has confessed to his crime, police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Hem Kumar Thapa said, "We have arrested the main shooter, however, other three persons including the mastermind behind the attack are at large."

SP Thapa quoted Harijan as saying, "We did not have any intention to kill him but we murdered him after he refused to give money to us."

Earlier, bike-borne assailants opened fire at Mahendra Prasad Kurmi, who was returning home on his motorbike with his wife and little son after withdrawing Rs 500,000 from Himalayan Bank, near Baikanthapur on September 15.

In coordination with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), District Police Office, Rupandehi, intensified the search operation and apprehended the absconding murder, DPO Spokersperson Khadak Bahadur Khatri, said.

Meanwhile, a search is on for the other absconding suspects, Khatri shared.
