Indian side closes Birgunj-Raxaul border briefly

BIRGUNJ: Indian customs, which had eased the border restrictions for some days, set up barricade at the Miteri Pul in the Nepal-India border on Tuesday afternoon, leaving the Nepali side but to speculate for some hours.

Hundreds of pedestrians were left at lurch in both the sides of border till the obstruction was cleared off and free

movement was allowed.

Parsa's Chief District Officer Keshav Raj Ghimire said the Indian side closed the border for some time but movement was allowed later.

The Indian officials, however, did not want to talk to the media over the border closure.

Meanwhile, the Indian authorities have made it mandatory to the Nepali vehicles to take special permit from Raxaul-based customs office to enter India. The new rule was implemented since yesterday.
