Initiatives for joint investment for developing tourism sites
Panchthar, November 27
Adjoining local bodies of Panchthar and Ilam districts have come up with a joint investment plan for the development of tourism destinations in the border region.
An agreement to this effect was reached at a meeting of local representatives of Panchthar’s Falelung and Ilam’s Maijogmai and Sandakpur Rural Municipalities today, in the presence of lawmakers representing the federal and provincial parliaments from here and tourism entrepreneurs.
The meeting held in Sandakpur, Ilam, was organized by Falelung Rural Municipality, Panchthar.
According to a member of federal Parliament Basanta Kumar Nambang, the idea of joint investment in the promising tourism destinations of these places is expected to further promote tourism there.
“Every year, thousands of visitors from India, Bhutan and other countries visit places such as Falaut, Tinsimana, Chiwabhanjyang, Timbung Pokhari and Sandakpur region, but as we lack tourism-related infrastructure such as hotels, lodges and viewpoints and the likes that we see in abundance on the Indian side, we are losing huge revenue,” said federal Parliament lawmaker Nambang.
Nembang also pledged his initiatives to create conducive environment for further investment in these areas from the government.
Meanwhile, a committee has been formed under the coordination of Falelung Rural Municipality Chairperson Sancha Kumar Kerung for effectively coordinating investment for development of required infrastructure.
