Thewa Rokaya of Bajura's Badimalika Municipality has returned home after successful treatment. Sixty-five-year-old Rokaya of Badimalika Municipality was injured after she was crushed under a cow that had slipped down a cliff and fallen upon her.
Injured Thewa was rescued and taken to Kathmandu for treatment after this daily published a news report about her plight. After reading the news about the injured woman, Nepal Healthcare Equipment Development Foundation, Kathmandu, had taken the responsibility of her treatment.
According to NHEDF Chairperson Samrat Singh Basnet, Thewa was treated for two months at National Trauma Centre. "After we learnt that she was unable to treat her because of her family's economic condition, we rescued her and brought her to Kathmandu. She was treated at NTC for two months," Basnet said.
Thewa's son Tek Bahadur informed that she was at first taken to the district hospital and then to Seti Provincial Hospital.
"As she couldn't be treated in Seti hospital too, she was then referred to Kathmandu, but there was no way we could afford to take her to the capital on our own expenses," said the son, expressing his sincere gratitude to the organisation for saving his mother's life.
The family was so much out of fund that they couldn't even afford to hire an ambulance to carry her to Dhangadi, from where she was due to be airlifted to Kathmandu.
While Nepal Police managed a vehicle to take Thewa upto Balde from Martadi, from Balde an ambulance was managed under the coordination of Budhiganga Mayor Dipak Bikram Shah.
Amrit Dhungana and Suni Gurung of America had also provided Rs 5,000 each in assistance for the woman's treatment.
